All Saints’ stands in the evangelical tradition. We are seeking to develop the use of music in our worship as part of our outreach and welcome, aiming to improve accessibility while maintaining quality. We wish to combine the best of the traditional and modern repertoires, including suitable items for all ages.
The post of Director of Music would ideally be held together with that of Organist (currently vacant), but that is not essential. It is more important that we find the right person. We look forward to welcoming our new Director of Music/Organist.
The music ministry is currently focused on the main 10.30 Sunday service as well as the usual (mostly seasonal) special services such as the carol service, although All Saints’ also holds 8am (said) and 6.30pm services each Sunday. The organ may also be used at weddings and funerals.
As a parish church, our music depends upon enthusiastic and talented congregation members. Music is led by a concert organ (by Grant, Degen & Bradbeer) and a Bechstein grand piano, supported by other instruments currently including guitar, saxophone, cello and drums, and a group of singers.
In order to help us achieve our purpose, we are seeking a person with enthusiasm for this blend of church music and with a lively Christian faith who can both help our talented musicians and contribute strategically as we move forward together. The Director of Music/Organist should be a worshipper first and a musician second, where the primary focus is to give glory to God through our worship.
We imagine that a Director of Music will:
- Have experience of directing/leading church music, with sensitivity to the needs of worship
- Display a high standard of musicianship
- Be able to harmonise our varied musical gifts
- Be able to develop a music list as agreed with the incumbent
- Be able to lead a weekly/fortnightly music practice
- Be able to encourage enthusiastic amateurs along with a sprinkling of experienced musicians
- Be able to work with people of all ages
Remuneration is negotiable, based on hours agreed and RSCM guidelines.
