Scientists in Congregations

All Saints’ was  delighted to receive a “Scientists in Congregations” Award, and a small team (Steve Bellamy, Helen Wilson, Mark Ritchie and Keith Thrower) organised a programme of four talks under the title Science & Faith: Big Questions in Faringdon Corn Exchange.

About 200 people heard the first talk on Thursday 12th October by Dr Sharon Dirckx – a neuroscientist and Tutor at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics – on the question “Has science killed God?”.  The talk can be heard here or read the review.

On Friday 3rd November, Dr Denis Alexander, a molecular biologist, author and Emeritus Director of the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion at St Edmund’s College, Cambridge spoke on “Creation or evolution: do we have to choose?”.  This talk can be heard here or read the review.

On Thursday 11th January, the Rt Revd Dr Lee Rayfield, Bishop of Swindon, with a background in Immunology and a member of the UK Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority, addressed the contentious subject “Designer babies: should we play God?”.  This talk can be seen here.  A review of this talk can be found here.
