Scientists in Congregations

All Saints’ was  delighted to receive a “Scientists in Congregations” Award, and since we heard the news a small team (Steve Bellamy, Helen Wilson, Mark Ritchie and Keith Thrower) has been busy organising a programme of four talks under the title Science & Faith: Big Questions in Faringdon Corn Exchange.

The dates for the next talks are:

  • Friday 3rd November: Dr Denis Alexander, a molecular biologist, author and Emeritus Director of the Faraday Institute for Science and Religion at St Edmund’s College, Cambridge will speak on “Creation or evolution: do we have to choose?”.
  • Thursday 11th January: The Rt Revd Dr Lee Rayfield, Bishop of Swindon, with a background in Immunology and a member of the UK Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority, will address the contentious subject “Designer babies: should we play God?”.
  • Thursday 8th February: The Revd Dr Rodney Holder, an astrophysicist, author and a Faraday Associate will look at “God or the Big Bang?”.

About 200 people heard the first talk on Thursday 12th October by Dr Sharon Dirckx – a neuroscientist and Tutor at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics – on the question “Has science killed God?”.

Each meeting will start at 7.30pm in Faringdon Corn Exchange. Entry is free. For further information contact admin@allsaintsfaringdon.org.uk
